Feeding
It can be challenging at first, but no one starts from being an expert. You must be able to feed your geckos to raise a healthy gecko. Crested Geckos feed on a fruit powder called gecko diet. Mix the gecko diet and water in a 1:2 ratio, and place it on a small dish. Although the gecko diet already has Calcium included, it is better to mix up Calcium additionally every once in a while as a supplement.
Also, Please feed feeder insects such as crikets, cockroaches, or horn worms at least one times a week. (This will be big plus for your gecko health)
*Baby geckos may sometimes refuse to feed on the gecko diet. Every individual has their own taste, so you may have to feed on different flavors of the gecko diet.
*The gecko diet has an expiration date. Discard any expired gecko diet.
Raising
1. Crested geckos are nocturnal animals active in the dark or in night time. Place the enclosure away from the direct sunlight.
2. Ideal temperature is between 75-80˚F. If it is too hot, your gecko will be stressed, and can lead to death. A reptile heat pad is generally not required for the crested geckos, unless your place is cold in the winter.
3. Reptiles are instinctive animals. Try not to touch too often. They can get stressed.
4. Mist and keep the enclosure humid, but not wet ground.
5. Any leftover, uneaten gecko diet must be removed after a night. Gecko diet does not contain antiseptic, so it can easily go bad.
6. Feed geckos every other day. Feed only an amount of the size of their head.
7. Baby geckos sometimes do not recognize the gecko diet as food. You may have to lead them to the food, and have them try to feed on their own.
8. Feeding live cricket is highly recommended, however, do not feed them any more than once in a week as maximum. Geckos may get used to crickets, and start to refuse the gecko diet.
9. Sexing your gecko is difficult until it reaches the sub-adult stage.
10. Once a gecko cuts his own tail off, it won’t grow back. Be very careful when you handle them. Try not to touch or grab their tail.
11. Hold them from bottom up, and not from up to down. They may feel threatened.
12. If your gecko is not doing well, please contact us immediately, so we can redirect you to animal doctors specifically handling reptiles.
13. They prefer a quiet environment over a loud unorganized environment.
Habitat and Environment Set Up
1. Vines
It is highly recommended and necessary to have a vine or any sort of mid-air object to hang onto to have a healthy tail. This also prevents Floppy Tail Syndrome (FTS), an often-overlooked health issue in crested geckos and various other lizards that its tail hangs at a 90-degree angle or to the side of the crested gecko’s body. Crested Geckos also drink water droplets on the vines, so it is very helpful to keep them hydrated.
2. Corc or cover up hide box
Crested geckos hide under corc bark or cover up hide boxes to feel comfortable. They also rub their body onto it to help molting. 3. Pulp fiber egg crate or cup holder - alternative replacement for Corc or hide box
