TAXONOMY

Latin Name: Lucanus capreolus (Linnaeus, 1763)

English Name: Brown Stag Beetle

Size: 30mm±

Distribution: southeastern USA

Known Hosts: Oak

Etymology: A species name capreolus is derived from Latin word caprea, a type of deer.

Comment: Adult beetles attracted to lights. Reddish brown colored with yellow spots on ventral side of legs, easily distinguishable from other species of Lucanus.


REARING/BREEDING

Lucanus capreolus can easily reared and bred just like L. elaphus. Life cycle is about an year.
