Our Thoughts on Crested Gecko Pricing

We often get asked questions like:

"Why is there such a big price difference for the same crested gecko?"

"How could this possibly cost $3,000?"

"This one's so cheap... is there something wrong with it?"

Those who have been watching the crested gecko market for a long time likely have some understanding of these price differences.

There are many factors—rarity, difficulty in producing certain traits, breeder limitations on how many geckos they can manage, and more.

But one thing we want to make clear is this:

Every gecko is precious.

Whether expensive or affordable, every gecko we raise is our friend and family. And we believe every gecko keeper should feel the same:

The gecko you care for is the most valuable one of all.

What Creates Price Differences?

Price differences aren’t just about rarity.

They often reflect a breeder’s time, effort, and investment.

For example:

  • Axanthics are expensive because they are difficult to produce. Even if a breeder purchases an expensive adult Axanthic male, it often takes at least two years and breeding across multiple generations, with only a ¼ chance, to produce visually Axanthic babies.

  • Tricolors are another story. High white laterals, rich coverage, and deep tangerine bases don't just happen overnight. These features are the result of 3 to 6 years or even over 10 years of careful selection and multi-generational breeding.

Even when breeders buy already established bloodlines, whether through time or investment, a great deal of effort is always behind the final result.

This is why the market naturally has a wide range of prices. And honestly, this is true across the entire pet industry, not just with crested geckos.

A Lower Price Doesn’t Mean Lower Quality

Sometimes breeders are forced to lower prices, not because the animals are bad, but because they have more geckos than they can personally manage with love and care. Of course, responsible breeders aim to avoid this situation through good planning, but life happens.

Just because a gecko is listed for a lower price does not mean it's of lower quality. When choosing a gecko, trust your own eyes and heart. If a gecko looks beautiful to you and touches your heart, that’s all that matters. That gecko will be the most precious treasure in your home.

Our Story

In our own journey, we've welcomed a wide range of geckos—From a humble $100 gecko when we were just starting out, to high-end individuals we invested heavily in, and to geckos we selectively bred over many years to create more stunning appearances.

Their worth to us has never been about the price tag, but about the love, time, and memories we share.

A Final Thought

The most precious gecko in the world is the one you love and care for in your own home. No dollar amount can measure that value.

As breeders who are still passionately working toward our dreams, we hope you’ll also take a moment to appreciate the time, effort, and heart that breeders put into their animals.

Most breeders aren’t just doing this for money. They're dedicating themselves—pouring in love, patience, and energy—to create something beautiful and meaningful.

Today, we hope you'll take a little extra time to look at your geckos with even more love in your heart.

Because at the end of the day, we are all people who truly love geckos.
