Description: Adolphine Stag Beetles occur in Indonesia, New Guinea, and Oceania. Your beetle in Insect Cube series is from Mt. Arfak, West Papua, Indonesia. They are in various different colors from green, gold, red, orange, blue, purple, brown, and black. It is one of the most beautiful stag beetles in the world!
They are very popular with enthusiasts because they are very easy to breed in captivity. You never know what color your offspring becomes!
Males can grow up to 50mm (2") or over, and has short to long mandibles (depending on size), curved forward and upward, with many small bumps on it, appears like a saw. They use their mandibles to fight for mate, food, and territories. Mandibles and front legs can also be used to scratch off plant to sip on plant saps.
Females, unlike males, do not have large mandibles, and are smaller in size. They are usually more variable in colors compared to males.
Unlike many nocturnal stag beetles, Adolphine stag beetles are day flyers. They LOVE to fly around!
