Description: Magnificent Jewel Weevils are found in southeastern Asian countries, and your insect is from Mountain Arfak of West Papua in Indonesia. They grow up to 30mm (1.18"), and like the name says, they are one of the most colorful weevils in the world! The color may serve as a warning sign to their predators which makes them think they are distasteful! Most Jewel Weevils feed on yam leaves, and some can have toxic substance make their predator to get sick on it. It surprisingly does not affect the beetle!!
Although weevils are generally considered as pests to plant and agriculture industry, there is no report Jewel Weevils are causing enough harms to them.
